Mata Amritanandamayi in Hyderabad

Action with intellect and not with love has landed us in difficulties, says the kind mother.

Mata Amritanandamayi, the living goddess who reaches every heart with a loving hug is in Hyderabad. Starting from her ashram in Kerala, she has visited Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Vizag before touching our city. During her two-day stay she reached out to more than 50,000 people in all age groups. On the first day cheques were given to students to pursue their education under 'Vidyamritam' scheme and assistance was extended to women for their livelihood under 'Amrita Nidhi' scheme. Social work with a heart.

Her ashram situated on the Mahindra Hills has come alive with activities as if a new civilization has come up there! Full of happy men, women and children doing their job with utmost peace.

We were there from 10.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs for her holy darshan. Devotees who came from distance places and were waiting for their turns would have been there close to midnight. Imagine Maa Amritanandamayi sits at one place ever fresh, ever cheerful and full of smiles all through, more than 12 hours. Unimaginable!

She began the day with prayers; this year I closely followed her ‘bhajans’, since there were subtitles: first dedicated to Ganesh, then Sri Krishna, Adi Shakti (primordial energy) and Lord Shiva followed by prayers for peace. The atmosphere was surcharged with an emotion that can’t be described by words. We had in the audience people belonging to all major faiths – Hindus, Muslims and Christians! I am mentioning names of the religions for the first time in any of my write-ups to emphasize what really secularism is! It is beyond the perception of any political party. I felt very proud for a moment to think what these god men (women) deliver to the public. To the hungry hearts of the devotees she served 11-course meal of peace and to the thirsty minds she provided cool drinks of love. There was no iota of aggression, not a single grain of violence.

It is a matter of great pride that we all have breathed same air, drank same water and walked on the same ground as Lord Buddha, Santh Kabir, Guru Nanak ji, Swami Vivekanand and Mahatma Gandhi.

Her prayers reverberated ‘Lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu’ (May all men be happy). Her strong message was Action with intellect and not with love has landed us in difficulties.
