Sometimes men may fail to achieve erection sufficient to complete the process of penetration. This condition is known as Impotence or erectile dysfunction. All men experience erectile dysfunction one or the other time in stages of life. This is a frustrating and stressful condition for both man and his partner. The mental stress further aggravates the situation.

Various medications are available in market to increase the hardness and duration of erections. But people are hesitant to use these due to various side effects which range from headache to blurred vision.

Many alternative therapies are available as a remedy to this condition. Here is the list of alternative therapies available for erectile dysfunction or sexual impotence.

Ayurveda: Texts of ayurveda reserves a complete branch to diagnose and treat this stressful condition. Ayurveda acharyas explain about causes, remedies, herbs , diet and lifestyles to help in sexual dysfunction or Impotence. This branch is known as “Vajikarana Adhyaya”. The aphrodisiac herbs are known as “Vajikara Dravyas”. The complete therapy to boost sexual energy of man is known as “Vajikarana Therapy”.

Homeopathy: Involves administration of repeatedly diluted substances from plants and minerals. The substances are diluted in alcohol or water. Homeopathic practitioners recommend homeopathic derivatives of fruits, dry fruits, herbs (saw palmetto, garlic, ashwagandha, Baryta Carbonica etc) to increase sexual energy.

Unani: This system of medicine is based on Greece philosophy. It is popular in Arab and East Asian countries. Almonds, pistachios, musli (safed musli), dates, raisins are used in aphrodisiac preparations of Unani Medicines.

Yoga : Many yoga gurus recommend various yoga pastures to rectify erectile dysfunction in men. These postures help to combat the main causes of sexual impotence i.e. diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and stress. Yoga postures normalize digestion, increase blood circulation and help in sufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to male reproductive system. Deep breathing exercises or Pranayama also play a great role in reducing stress level and providing abundant supply of oxygen to body tissues.

Chinese medicines: Practitioners of Chinese medicine say the sexual dysfunction arises in Yang Deficiency. Herbs like Horny goat weed, cinnamon, etc are used in Chinese medicines. Acupuncture is also used along with Chinese herbs to keep erectile dysfunction at bay. Acupuncture is to normalize the energy flow with the help of needles

Apart from these alternative therapies, medical practitioners from all system of medicines advice incorporation of healthy eating habits, increased physical activity (exercises) and stress busting activities to keep mans sexual health at peak. It is very important to note that cessation of smoking, reducing alcohol consumption and avoiding recreational drugs contribute towards the increase of sexual energy.
