Will India Strike Gold?

Less than 100 days remain for the Commonwealth Games to begin. Booking tickets to witness the games has already started. Never have I looked forward more eagerly to a sporting event. I believe that my life long dream might at last be realized. For the first time India just might sweep an international meet in all events and categories to emerge as the king of sport. If this happens it will be largely because of the organizers of the Commonwealth Games. The preparation for the games up till now has been superb.

The strategy for winning the Games on the home ground is being effectively implemented by India ’s sports authorities. The athletes will be housed in the Games village that is constructed on the river bank in Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna area. This area provides the most fertile ground for Dengue mosquitoes, water carrying cholera germs, hepatitis and jaundice. The annual sicknesses that spread across Delhi start from this area. Also, the air in Delhi continues to be polluted leading to coughs, colds and influenza.

Up till the time of this writing the catering contracts for the Games have yet not been signed. Great move! Hopefully at the last moment some dhabawallas will get the contracts and feed the foreign athletes. The crucial importance of bad food that wrecks digestion and athletic performance cannot be over emphasized.

If things continue to go well one can see how the Games could shape up. All the athletes from the white, pampered nations will start coughing, sneezing and clutching their stomachs even before their events start. One can imagine them tottering on the track as Indian athletes will sail past them softly singing the national anthem under their breaths. For the first time our athletes will be able to compete with UK, Australia and Canada on a level playing field. Yah! You pampered softies! Try and compete against us on the conditions we face the year around!

Hopefully, at the end of the Games our athletes will learn to appreciate the years of training to perform in these conditions that our government thoughtfully provided them. All that hard training will now pay off. Today not only our athletes, even the ordinary folk in Delhi are so toughened that when there is an encounter between man and mosquito, most often man survives and mosquito dies. According to my estimate India will hog the maximum number of medals, Bangladesh will come second and Pakistan third. Britain, Australia and Canada will be way, way behind. Thanks to fair play and level playing field!

Comment You have very wicked and candid sense of humor. Is anybody listening or the authorities that be are hell bent to make the Commonwealth Games to be held in India a fiasco?
