Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci - Self-Portrait - WGA12798.jpg

Leonardo da Vinci, born on 15th April 1452, was an Italian Renaissance Polymath (Painter, Sculptor, Anatomist, Cartographer, Engineer, Inventor, Musician, Botanist etc.,.).  He is considered to be the greatest genius of all times.  His works in all fields indicate that his knowledge was much ahead of his times. He had prepared drawings of advanced engineering items such as flying machines. At his time, however, mathematics was not much advanced, nor was technology. His "inventions" remained only on paper.

He had prepared very accurate sketches of human parts. All these, however, did not contribute to scientific progress. The reason is that Leonardo rarely published his works and kept all his notes to himself.

Leonardo is immortal because of two masterpiece paintings. They are Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. In addition he will be long remembered for his perseverance and indefatigable spirit.

A few of his motivational quotes:

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.

I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.

Learning never exhausts the mind.

As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death.
