If I were a Dictator !

If I were a Dictator !
In a recent workshop Supreme Court justice A R Dave said, "Somebody who is very secular... so-called secular will not agree... Had I been the dictator of India, I would have introduced the Gita and the Mahabharata in class 1. That is the way you learn how to live life."
The Honourable justice Dave has a important viewpoint which needs scrutiny. At times we hear some ignorant people say- military rule would be better. During Emergency we had people celebrate trains running in time, discipline albeit at the cost of losing freedom.
Why do we need a Dictator for doing anything at all. Is he suggesting that our Democratic system is failing to give proper direction and results? If it is so, we need to introspect and correct ourselves. But thinking of losing our freedom, going for Dictatorship- sorry Mr Dave, the countrymen do not need it- Gita or no Gita.
All spiritual texts guide human beings in some way or the other. It is the duty of each parent to provide religious, spiritual guidance and values to their children. The schools are their to educate young minds for preparation for further higher education and survival.
The citizens may like to know what more Mr Dave would like to do other than introducing Gita. My suggestion- thousands of cases are pending in courts for years. Those merit some attention.
Recent Controversies
Several books  being taught in Gujarat high schools, are authored by Mr Dinanath Batra, national executive of RSS education wing, Vidya Bharati. Mr Batra's books have been criticized by many.
Defending the content of the books, Dinanath Batra feels that the existing curriculum has western influence and does not highlight the 'achievements' of Indian history.
His critics go to the extent of questioning why he should have written about foreign goods in a negative way. Let us not forget- boycotting imported textile was a important tool in our freedom movement.
This prompts one to think- don’t we need more serious thought while moulding young minds. We have had instance of only select family members’ contribution being highlighted – not only in books but also while renaming roads, national projects etc..
Setting Example
Our democratically elected Honourable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi recently opposed a move by some BJP ruled state governments to include a chapter regarding his life in school textbooks. He categorically stated- "I firmly believe that the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum."
Mr Modi further added- "India has a rich history of several stalwarts who made India what it is today. Young minds should read about these greats & emulate them."

Comment The judge need not have made the remark. But he has anyway made the remark. I wish to know from him whether there is anything in Mahabharata for the Class 1 children to learn particularly when he says "..learn how to live life". If children ask sincere questions about Mahabharata it is difficult to answer honestly.

Comment Of all the people, this statement is least expected from a Judge. We do have some naive people in the society who support dictatorship, only on the assumption that a dictator will work towards their wants and make things better.
