10 Guidelines for healthy Eating

Texts of Ayurveda recommend healthy eating habits to prevent weight gain and maintain a healthy digestion. Here are tips for healthy eating if you are obese or planning to lose weight.

  1. Eat only when you are hungry.
  2. Give a gap of 4 hours between two eating sessions
  3. Cut your portions in half. Whatever sized portions you currently eat - cut them in half, and save the rest for a snack later on.
  4. Strictly say no to soft drinks let it be regular or diet. Kick this habit, and you'll save money and improve your health.
  5. Drink plenty of water before and water meals. This reduces the quantity of food intake. Always keep a bottle of fresh potable water with you.
  6. Eliminate Sugar. Avoid deserts like ice creams, chocolates, sweets etc.  Reserve them only for occasions.
  7. Eat a small portion of food once in 4 hours. Include more of fruits, vegetable salads, dry fruits in these portions instead of junk or oily foods.
  8. Take care to include protein rich food in every portion of your food.
  9. Never skip breakfast if you are willing to lose weight.
  10. Include foods which contain plenty of fibres in your diet
