Savita Syal’s book Kshitij consists of twelve short stories in Hindi. These stories are woven around sensitive human relationships. They revolve around men-women relationship , women’s sensitivities.
Author is able to capture attention of the reader very aptly. Characters portrayed overcome varied obstacles but at times are helpless like in “Sach ya Sapna” the lady in face of resistance is able to give higher education to her daughter but unable to defeat the scourge of dowry.
“Aspatal ke gate tak” shows a mother’s love and insensitivities of sons in pursuit of material wealth.
“Kagaz ka tukra” has the wife of a Param Vir Chakra awardee face the world in a resolute manner.
Characters in Kshitij are all around us. Readers can relate to them as one of their own. Food for thought in a society where values are changing.
A good read for the serious.
