Supercitizens

The nation’s full machinery has bowed to the unaccepted behaviour of Honourable Member of Parliament Mr Ravindra Gaikwad. He had beaten up a sixty year old staff of Air India with slippers over non-availability of desired seats in a particular flight. He was subsequently  inconvenienced by refusal of all airlines to allow him to fly. Civil Aviation Minister Mr Ashok Gajapathi Raju has after two weeks agreed and instructed Airlines to allow the Honourable MP to fly. Apology having been issued, attempt is treat the matter as closed!
Dishonouring Oath
Every Minister takes the following oath before assuming his office-
“I will duly and faithfully and to the best of my ability, knowledge and judgment perform the duties of my office without fear or favour, affection or ill-will and that I will uphold the Constitution and the laws.”
Has the course of law been changed by the Honourable Minister’s intervention?
Encouraging Troublemakers
As if above case was not enough, we have had the incident of another Honourable Member of Parliament Dola Sen causing a Delhi-Kolkata flight to be delayed by 40 minutes over seating arrangement for her mother.
Questions arise in the mind about equity in rule of law in the land.
Will the powers that be tolerate such behaviour of ordinary citizens ?
One is reminded of Tulsidas’s doha  (couplet)-

Translated- the fault of rich and powerful is not even questioned by God! Do we really believe in this?
Supercitizens
We have created a band of individuals in our country (may be true for the subcontinent) who can be called Supercitizens.
They comprise of the privileged- some by birth ,while some acquire the same by hard work with intention to pass on the same to their next generation. They come from all sections of the society- politics, business, civil servants , military and even legal fraternity. We have even had some of them clamouring for privileges on account of “sacrifices” made by their grandfather! All free of cost at tax payer’s expense.
Arrogance and a self-conception of being above law is a common trait of these Supercitizens.

Winds of Change
Adityanath Yogi, new CM of U P has reportedly done away with red beacon atop his vehicle.
Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has recently gone without escort to New Delhi airport to receive nation’s guest Mrs Hasina –Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

One hopes these are not isolated instances of change.

Yes, we also see bills for their own salary increase getting passed with lightning speed in the Parliament by members of all political hues. One wishes they show the same concern and speed in matters of state and developmental issues !

Navin, The goon Gaikwad (as media refer to him) personifies today's goodaism and dadagiri. The sad fact is that not one person who matters has condemned him. However honest the governments in their intentions, political compulsions take front seat and all else mve backwards. .. raghavan
