Increased Cholesterol and Erectile dysfunction

Increased cholesterol level in blood can lead to erectile dysfunction. Men with total cholesterol greater than 200 mg/dl have a higher risk for erectile dysfunction. Efficient lipid metabolism is very important to get hard erections and sustain the erections. Erectile dysfunction can be one of the earliest symptoms seen in cholesterol disorder. Hence when you notice erectile dysfunction it is advisable to approach your family physician and check the blood cholesterol level. This may help to reveal underlying heart disease too. The drugs that are presently available for the treatment of erectile dysfunction simply treat the symptom and do not help to treat the underlying cause. Modifications in diet and lifestyle to reduce blood cholesterol level help in a long way to regain the lost erections.
