Practical Joke

It was Monday, 22nd Aug, 2000, and it was my first day of orientation at St. Augustine College at Chicago. It was for the fall semester and about 100 students enrolled for different subjects. They dispersed in three groups in the end after all instructions to follow each appointed instructor who in turn would show them the premises, classes, computer room, library, church, the office and the canteen in the end, where they were to have refreshments.

On his way to each section, the instructor explained to us all that is necessary for the students to know and coming to the rules of the attending class he said “In case you can’t attend a particular class for some reason it is better for you to inform your instructor and your counselor. You should know your instructor, his first and last name, and his phone number where he can be reached… not just call the office and say I want to convey the message to so and so not knowing who you are leaving the message for”.

Ending with strange look he looked at us all and clapping his own hands he said, “Do you have any questions?”

And I said, “Yes, I want to know your first and last name.”
