Entertainer vivacious Shammi Kapoor, who stirred up young hearts in 1960s with his famous 'Yahoo' Yell, is no more. This Bollywood icon, hailed as Elvis Presley of India, carved a niche for himself with his rock 'n' roll style of dance. Shammi was unique many well known heroines had their debut with him as the hero: Saira Banu in Junglee, Sharmila Tagore in Kasmir ki kali. Asha Parekh, Ameeta too had their debut stint with him.

Well known heroines Madhubala, Nutan, Vyjanthimala, Padmini, B. Saroja Devi, Babita, his first wife Geeta Bali had acted with him. He was ever cheerful, gentle and polite to the co-stars, directors and all others.

He had won Filmfare's best actor award in 1968 and best supporting actor in 1982. He has the dinstiction of acting with his grandnephew Ranbir in his last film. His dance style and vivacity made him popular not only in India but also in many countries outside India like Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and other middle-east countries. His songs were on the lips of youths to woo the young girls.

Shammi was the younger brother of Raj Kappoor, second son of legendary Prithviraj Kapoor, the handsome Pathan from Pewshawar. He was born on Oct 21, 1931. He had marrried to Geeta Bali in 1965 and son Aditya and daughter Kanchan. Following Geeta Bali's untimely death, he married Neela Devi from Bhavnagar royal family 1n 1969. The blue-eyed Kapoors were heart-throbs of millions in India. With passing away of Shammi on the night of Aug 14, 2011 a great roar falls silent, and the nation sheds tears.

I condole the death of this great artist, share sorrow with Kapoor family and wish his soul to rest in peace.
