Watching 'Chak De India' (d-Shimit Amin), a film on women’s hockey, one gets the feeling that motivation alone can do wonders, and even attributes like skills, techniques and physical stamina may be relegated to lesser importance in sports. The Indian hockey team which loses 0-7 to Australians in the opening match comes back with a bang in the same tournament to beat the same Australian side in the finals to become champions.  Wow! The motivation which uplifts the team from a quibbling, ineffective side to great heights comes from the coach Kabeer Khan (Shahrukh Khan), a former National Indian hockey player who wrongly suffered humiliation and accusation of throwing a final match against arch rival Pakistan.

The performers are competent, and all the new actresses essaying the role of players have done a good job. Shahrukh Khan delivers a fine performance, easily one of his best after ‘Swades.’
