Woman: She is a Mother First and Last!

Lately, Indian society has taken a new turn - so to say the women population. It is very encouraging to know that the women in India are getting more and more career oriented. It is a very good feeling when we are able to do things; we like to do and succeed. It is very important for us to be able to prove to ourselves what we are capable of doing. When we are almost finished with the responsibility of raising kids, we feel the necessity of having a successful career. Therefore, it is important that we do not over look building the career while we are raising kids.

However, there is another very important aspect that women have to take care of - raising good citizens. We often say in Hindi that a woman has to repay the earth by becoming a mother. Becoming a mother is a lot more than just giving birth. Mother has the total responsibility of raising the children to become good human beings and good citizens. I personally, feel raising good citizens is far greater responsibility than just raising good and successful children. The citizens build the nations, which is the future of our children. If we like to be selfish, we should be selfish in giving good overall future to our children.

In the process of our being more self-centered, we are somewhat deviating from our other equally important responsibility. Woman is the primary force between the parents who is responsible for creating good citizens. True, a father carries a lot of influence over children in building their character. Yet, it is the mother who inculcates good values in the children.

Unfortunately the deterioration of our society is not solely to be blamed on the films and the media. The first and foremost influence on the children is the parents. With our shifting of the priorities, we are not able to give enough time to our children. It is necessary, that we spend more time with children and talk with them more and more about certain critical issues in order to prevent outside negative influences. It is very difficult now-a-days however, if we do not give up on our kids, we can most certainly always influence them.

It is often found that the kids who are neglected and are less fortunate in getting love of their parents are full of anger within. These kids contribute negatively to our society. Most such kids are either from broken families, teenage mothers and or mothers who work full time and are not able to give them time. It is important to provide a good material life for our kids but more important is to provide a loving and healthy emotional atmosphere for them.

Because of the media we are more aware here in the west. It is often found that the kids who are neglected and are less fortunate in getting love of their parents are full of anger within. Those kids contribute negatively to our society. Most such kids are either from broken families, teenage mothers and or mothers who work full time and are not able to give them time. It is important to provide a good material life for our kids but more important is to provide a loving and healthy emotional atmosphere for them. The most important part of a growing child is the emotional security. It needs a lot of sacrifice on the part of the mother. It is very difficult for mothers to work full time, take care of the home and still give time to the kids. Needless, to say where there is a will there is a way.

Our children should be our top priority - we owe it to ourselves, to our kids and last but not the least to our society. For what is society, if not us?

Article Comment Dear Shobha:

I can relate to your feelings. It is really important for a woman to have a successful career. Completely a woman's discretion whether to have kids or not to have kids. In case a woman does decide to have kids, then I personally feel it is her total responsbility. Child raising is not just providing for the food, clothing and good education. Every human has very strong emotions and a emotionally secured human being is the one who is happy and gives back happiness to the society.

Article Comment Really bad article. A way to Propagate the agenda that women has no individual rights. She has to keep that old age idiom that our happiness comes last and should be in last priority order to everyone else.

Maybe worked for my Mom generation, when women were educated less and for her to work or not was in hands of Husbands and family. If you got a good husband well and good....If not, you have no way out of it, since you are not capable of having a life outside family.

I don’t think, I want my freedom to be limited/or determined by anyone else. Its my choice if I want to have kids or not, or if I want to continue working full time or not. There are too many examples of women doing exceedingly well in both. But if want to be a full time mom, that’s my decision too. There are no preachy/good ways here. Just a personal choice.

So a sweeping statement like "Most such kids are either from broken families, teenage mothers and or mothers who work full time and are not able to give them time." is nothing but an insult to women and their freedom.
