Ayurveda is the science and yoga is the practice of the science. Both originate as part of a greater system of Vedic knowledge. Yoga originates in the Yajur Veda, while Ayurveda originates in the Atharva Veda and Rig Veda.

Yoga plays a very important role in pregnancy. Lot of physical & mental changes occur in women during pregnancy. If pregnant lady do yoga exercises appear healthier, both in mind and body. Their bodies are more flexible, which enables them to adapt to various positions when in labour and the ligaments are more elastic, which in turn can help to reduce labour pain.

Yoga helps to prepare mind and body of mother for the birth. It encourages breath and body awareness, reduces worry and teaches women to adapt to new situations. Utkatasana, konasana, bharasana are some asana which are so useful in pregnancy.

Yoga continues to have benefits after pregnancy, too. Postnatal yoga, which can be started about six weeks after the birth, strengthens abdominal muscles and your pelvic floor. It also helps you to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape faster. In this way yoga can helpful to before, during and after pregnancy also.
