Once when I was young and full of rage,
I stared at men reading page after page.
Now I sit here solemn, and looking handsome,
Yet befuddled by this conundrum….
Why are books meaningless to my breed?

I’ve been known to be capricious,
And my behavior often is rambunctious.
Yet, now in my somber mood and attitude
I can only reflect in my solitude….
Will my kindred ever learn to read?

My knowledge is vague and incomplete
I can only use books as my seat, while I eat.
I have heard that their veiled wisdom
Have made men lords of the kingdom….
Ah, if only apes could follow man’s lead!

With our skulls full of mush and jello,
How are we to appreciate da Vinci or Michelangelo?
I have struck a pose for Auguste Rodin,
Truth be told, I would rather be readin’….
Only literacy can make my brethren succeed.
