Kabir Man Nirmal Bhaya, Jaise Ganga Neer
Pache Pache Har Phire, Kahat Kabir Kabir

Translation

Kabir's mind got cleansed like the holy Ganges water
Now everyone follows, saying Kabir Kabir

My Understanding

Everyone desires to be known, to belong.  Yet due to the chaotic states of our minds, we find ourselves secluded and limited.  The cause of this chaos is our attachments and bondages.  For some reason we are unable to break these shackles and are therefore confined.

The desire to scale the heights of infinity can be achieved only when there is release from our attachments and feelings of insecurity that bind us.  And, this is possible only when our mind is cleansed from the impurities of ego, illicit passions, anger, fear, greed and procrastination.

Once the mind is free then we find ourselves relaxed, loving and compassionate. Then everyone looks up to us and  wants to associate with us with confidence.  Only those with relaxed and loving mind find themselves in harmony with everyone.

Comment keep our mind far away from all greed, enemy, expectations and so on.your mind becomes so clean that there is no need to search God.At that time God will search you because no. of such persons are very less in this world.

Comment I think the doha is mistranslated here, actual translation being

Kabir got the mind clean, like the Ganges Falls
Now God follows everywhere, Kabir Kabir he calls!

It expresses mainly the fact that you need not focus on God but need to get your house(mind) clean first. Once that is done God himself calls on you.

Comment I like the humility expressed in this doha. The way I see it is that Kabir is saying that when a person's mind is clean (pure) he does not need people to follow him or to praise him.

Comment I think the commentary is atrocious. What a wonderful couplet, destroyed by useless commentary. What he means is that once your mind is cleansed, you don't have to worry about reaching the Lord; He will come looking for you. Similar to the idea expressed in teh 12th chapter of the Bhagwad Geeta: yomad bhakta sa me priyaha: meaning such a devotee (as in one who has these qualities) is very dear to Me.

Comment ' looking up to us ' (comment: vaarua)
.... i think does not really mean 'idolizing the person'
but rather ... nobody has a need to 'fear or be uncomfortable' with that cleansed/tender (nirmal) person ... for he/she has become like dust.
Only God knows best :)

Comment here I think another poet has translated this to mean"when Kabir's mind was cleansed as pure as the river Ganges, even God came fafter Kabir saying Kabir, Kabir"...remember in the understanding of the mystics that have experienced God, the pure soul that comes into its own when the mind is vanquished is but a drop of the ocean of consciousness termed as God...

Comment Interpretation is really very good though Im not so sure about the reference to people looking up to us... I find this sits very uneasy with me

Comment The translations and interpretations of Kabir's dohas are excellent. It brings back memories of my childhood... when I read these but did not grasp their spiritual meaning!
