Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) , May 3 (IANS) At least eight workers of a private factory here were injured Tuesday after the company's guards opened fire at them following a clash between the workers and the management, police said.
The incident took place in Chiluatal town, where many workers of a thread manufacturing factory were staging a demonstration demanding the reinstatement of some of their sacked colleagues.
The workers then had a verbal duel with the management officials, which was followed by a scuffle.
'The workers alleged that at the behest of the management, the security guards of the factory opened fire to disperse them,' Superintendent of Police Umesh Chandra told reporters in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
'All the injured workers have been admitted to a hospital. Two of them are critical,' he added.
According to police, the factory's management officials and guards are absconding.
