Raman Singh sends Rs.1 crore defamation notice to media houses
|
Raipur, Dec 15 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has sent legal notices to two media houses after they carried a report against him over his alleged involvement in a mining scam, sources close to Singh as well as the media houses confirmed Thursday.
Singh has sent notices to news channel ETV (Madhya Pradesh/Chhattisgarh) and leading daily Hindi newspaper, Patrika, for allegedly carrying the reports without any proof and evidence against him.
The 59-year-old chief minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government since December 2003 has strongly refuted charges in the media though his notices.
Singh's counsel has asked both the media houses to explain their position on the report within seven days failing which his client would file a defamation case of Rs.1 crore against them as the report has damaged Singh's public reputation.
Both the media groups had carried reports extensively this month, accusing Singh of influencing the state government for recommending allotment of a mine area to his close relatives based in Madhya Pradesh.
People working in the ETV (Madhya Pradesh/Chhattisgarh) have confirmed receiving the legal notice while Patrika carried a front page report in its Raipur edition Thursday based on the text of the legal notice sent to it.
