Rotational chief minister decision upto 'high command': Soz
Jammu, Dec 17 (IANS)
It is for the Congress high command to decide on the issue of rotational chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir which is governed by the National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition, state Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz said Saturday.
'I cannot say anything on this. It is for the high command to decide on this issue,' Soz
said at a press conference here.

Majority of the Congress leaders in the state are in favour of rotational chief minister -- three years for NC and remaining three for the Congress. The life of legislative assembly in the state is six years.

In the earlier coalition with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the alliance was led by the PDP for the first three years from 2002 while the power was later handed over to Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress.

The party leaders are desirous of the same now but the party high command is not giving clear signals on it. Congress sources attribute this to 'close proximity' of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

On the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir, the state Congress president said: 'It is a temporary law and has to go one day. But that can be done only with consultation with all stakeholders.'
