Pakistan to stop graft money use in elections
Islamabad, Dec 30 (IANS)
Pakistan will put a stop to the use of ill-gotten money in elections and set up a political finance wing to look into it.
The Election Commission will put in place a system to prevent the use of 'ill-gotten' money in polls and scrutinise the statements and declarations of the contesting candidates and elected representatives, said Dawn.

The Auditor General of Pakistan Revenues and the Federal Bureau of Revenue will establish a political finance wing soon to streamline political finance, an official said.

He said that nomination papers and annual statements would be changed so that candidates have to disclose actual details of their assets and liabilities and the taxes paid.

The trend of undervaluing property and other assets would be cross-checked, he added.

The election commission is also considering a proposal for using special imported paper with watermark.

Pakistan has a population of about 180 million.
