Man kidnaps one-year-old, arrested

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS)
An abducted one-year-old girl was rescued and her kidnapper arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, police said Friday.
A team of Delhi Police arrested Data Ram, a resident of Punjabi Basti near Anand Parbat in central Delhi, from Kanpur railway station and recovered the child, the daughter of his friend and neighbour Ashok.
Data Ram had demanded a ransom of Rs.1 lakh from the girl's parents, said a police official.
During interrogation, Data Ram said he was sharing a house with Ashok since 2008. In 2009, Ashok got married but continued to live there only.
In the same year, Data Ram had provided Rs.1 lakh to Ashok's wife for medical treatment.
However, the couple shifted to another house later.
According to police, Data Ram, who had fallen in love with Ashok's wife, decided to kidnap her child to pressurise her to get divorced from Ashok and to get back the money which he had spent on her treatment.
