An Aftermath

One person, one obituary, that's the way it was meant to be
One face, one life, scrutinized, every epitaph poetically nice
I think I will go out tonight, drink tea, tell others I may not fish for awhile
Billowing, marauding, thousands faceless, you have no right to get away child

I had plans for you, you even approved
I'd pay someone to get you to doctor's school
Just like that city boy who came with his wife
Tousled your hair, said you need a new life

Let them all go away, I am not going back in to cook rice
Your auntie's a pain and tonight I just can't look nice
Your mother always knew, yet she went out looking for you
Was it the pull, was it karma, was it the fat politician's lull

In a year from now, when your brother's two
Memories, anger, choked tears, but not even a photo of you
I can't go, I must go on, the man who showed you the way
Can he show me too ' if he is true '
what your brother and me can do?
