Can't Escape Me

Hasten your pace and I shall still follow
Think I would give up, my dear fellow?
When you look behind and see me there
I can tell that I seem to give you quite a scare
Could it be because you realized?
I am the opportunity you never seized?

You can run from me
but I shall always be with you
Through thick or thin
I am the one who sees you through
You cower in a house of glass – heh!
And then expect to hide from me?
I won’t even leave you at night
when there’s no light to spare
For even when you can’t see me
I am always there

Give me the freedom
and I shall race with you beyond the meadow
You are stuck with me
I am, after all, your shadow
Make me happy and
I shall smile at you from every window
You can’t expect any more
from your reflection can you?
I sit at your bedpost
whilst you wander deep in your slumber
and wait the dawn of a new day
I am your conscience sitting through the night
always having something to say
