  It was a T-Bird night!
Wonder children
all dressed to the hilt
in suede and velveteen
grabbed candy cigarettes
and headed for Tuxedo's-
a jam was on
in orange, slinky light.
A blonde woman, Joy Sutcliff,
grabbed a tambourine
gave it a twist
then laughed in delight.
A milk-maid maiden
of the mid-west, she grabbed
her skirt and twirled
black pumps leaving
hot spots on linoleum.
A hefty bard, a frisky minstrel,
Red Hecker joined in
and tooted a golden trumpet
into night's quilt
as the band played
drums and sax
jumping like gazelles
over heated plains.
On this warm, pulsating night
two lovers sat
outside the dance hall
reciting poetry
reaching into depth of
soul...
