Postponing The Smile

You insist that I remain happy
Joyous and youthful forever
In this world where sorrows abound
But suffers from the famine of pleasure
The experiences burrow deep
Without noise or immediate hurt
Making subtle impressions all the same
Only to erupt later as volcanoes burst
In the ensuing catastrophe
All is engulfed and charred to naught
And one has to wait for years
Before it cools down as fertile land
Then the laughter of innocence
Resurfaces as childhood for a while
Only to merge into adult sob of despair
Overriding the adolescence, can you smile?
