  To the unsuspecting toe
The chill comes
Crisp and clean
It’s cold.
Water at her purest best
She laughs
And gurgles
As she races down
Her predestined track
Carrying along
Goldfish in her belly
Traipsing along
Slippery smooth pebbles
Giving life to green things
Making love to the bank, flirtingly.
She is resolute
Stop her you can’t.
Stand in her way
And round you she goes
Laughing
Mocking
Tickling your toes.
The pale morning sun
Makes her sparkle like gold
The evening moonbeam
Dressing her in silver
Above, the owl
Arranges his feathers
His vanity reflected
In her depths so true.
And in the quiet
Of a wild jungle night
She still is as frisky
As ever
Tinkling along
Like a nymph’s anklet song
Refreshing whoever comes to her.
