Hopeless Love

O why can’t I show him my heart
Baring it all
Why can’t I make him understand my pain!
Ignoring me laughing
Look how he passes me by
How heartless he is
At me
He doesn’t cast even a passing glance
And rebuffs all my offers of love!
Nobody sees how secretly I suffer
Had my love been a flower
I could pluck it and offer it at his feet
May be he wouldn’t pick up
Neglected it would wither
But it would show him beyond doubt
How hopelessly I am in love.

Translation of the love song – Tare dekhate parine keno pran khulego – from the dance drama Mayar khela by Rabindranath Tagore. Best recording of this song is by Debabrata Biswas. The original is at
