Bamrauli Fairchild Packets

When we were young we wondered
Who flew these C119 Fairchild Packets
In the serene blue skies of
The afternoon sun,
We watched eagerly as they droned the distance
Carrying our dreams
To far off lands of Gothic churches and spires
Where the streets were always clean
For nobody dirtied them
And every girl was fair and stunning.

All too short a time passed by
When we ourselves travelled on scholarships
To Europe and the US
Finding our own manageable futures
Our own unpredictable imaginings
And when we returned on larger aircrafts
We were frightened of so many things
We often forgot our anxieties
Through fantasies, food and fizz,
Heaving a sigh of relief upon landing.
