Salutation to you, Father

(Written on the occasion of Father's Day, June 19, 2011)

Whenever you get
into the radar of my mind,
the signal of your love
in my heart I readily find.

I remember the day
when you piggybacked me
on the first day of the school,
I remember the days
when you taught me
how to fly a kite,
how to ride a bike
and the ball for a six how to strike…

If mother be a rose garden of grace,
which she for sure is,
for her protection you formed
a formidable dependable fence.

If she were to decorate the home,
you formed its high four wall
for the nails to be struck
and the paintings of love to be hung!

If mother were to be a forest brook
to look after all our needs,
you formed verily the hill
to catch the fleeing clouds
and squeeze them to drizzle
for us merrily to dance
to the lightning's flash
and the rhythms of the thunder

You are the guardian angel
and heaven’s true messenger,
on this auspicious day
I salute you, Oh dear father!

Poem Comment Thank you, Rupradha. Parents are so precious we often go emotional while writing about mother or father. So sweet of you.
