The present is a curious thing, just how wide
is its extent: as wide as the future or the past;
but in this purely a conceptual thing
in which material form is enshrined as idol
its working mode belying its lack of being.
Material form appears to be - though never is;
rather, it fulfils the concept of being present,
and, not to split hairs, appears present, when
its identity as concept is what's present:
materiality itself is only a concept.
For example, take this keyboard: materially,
a concept realised: a fixity of concept that
overrides the material flux, never the same
from one moment to the next: in the extreme
analysis, that never exists, except as a concept.
To identify material form as the concept
it represents is the way we work with things;
and it is in the way concepts are perceived,
their inter-action, that we acquire knowledge
of the world, which is wholly conceptual.
Space and time, the air we breathe, the food
we eat, all our days and nights, past and
future, all things inanimate or living, all
arrangements, forecasts, memories,
everything, in short, is realised in concept.
And that explains the flow of things,
as in the flow of concept, of one great concept,
started, in whose meaning the transient
forms appear as the concepts that work
to fulfil the act of knowledge, there defined.
