Morning Prayer

In the stream of this morning light
Please wash me clean
My soul remains covered by dust
Please awaken it washing it clean.
With the golden wand of this morning glow
Please touch the forehead of my sleeping self.
This morning breeze, as if maddened by light,
Is blowing from the heart of the universe
With this breeze please bend my heart.

Wash me clean in the stream of joy
Flowing through the world
And remove from my mind
Whatever is mean and unclean.

There is heavenly music in my mind
But it remains asleep
It has no words or rhythm or tune
Please break its sleep with your touch of joy
And bend my heart with the air of music
Blowing from the universal mind.

Translation of the devotional song – Aloker ei jharnadharay dhuiye dao – by Rabindranath Tagore.
