Your Gifts

My home is small,
too small to keep your gifts.

You have given me an ocean
to sail my paper boats of dream,
you have given mighty mountains,
though I need a small hump to slide.

All that I need are a few trees
for the birds to perch and build nests,
and what shall I do with the forest
aren’t these too big for my Teddy to rest?

I wished to light my little home,
and you have provided the sun,
the moon, the stars and lightning…
and the switches are beyond my reach!

In place of a tiny aquarium,
you present me the lakes and rivers
with fish – exotic and lovely,
shall I thank you for this
or curse me to express my silent wish?

My home is small,
too small to keep your gifts.

Poem Comment Thank you, Rupradha... friends too are great gifts. There is a saying, 'In each and every moment there is a hidden gift. Lucky are they who find it.' I am lucky for I have a friend in you. Love and thanks.
