People Fed Up with BJP Rule, Says Jogi
by Sujeet Kumar
Raipur,
Dec 31 (IANS) Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi says the
Congress will comfortably form the next government in the state due
to what he says is the "misrule" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP).
"People are fed up with the saffron government. Development
activities have been blocked across the state and people are itching
to get over the Raman Singh rule," Jogi said in an interview.
"I am committed to help the party back to power in the next
elections in 2008 because the BJP government has pushed the state
decades behind through flawed policies," he said.
Jogi refused to state whether he would like to be in national
politics or remain in the state. "It's up to the party high command
to decide my role. I will work anywhere under any circumstances."
Wheelchair-bound Jogi, who met with a near fatal accident while
campaigning in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, is struggling to be
physically fit.
Despite doctors' recommendation to avoid exertion, Jogi campaigned
extensively for his wife Renu, who defeated the BJP candidate in
Kota assembly constituency by a record margin. The election was
described as a referendum between the BJP government and Jogi.
Renu's victory was widely seen as a tribute to Jogi's political
skills to ground opponents in key battles.
"The Congress was shackled after losing power to BJP in 2003. It
opened up some rift in the state unit but we all want to see the
party back in power," Jogi stated.
Buoyed by his wife's success, Jogi is on a whirlwind tour of the
state's interior pockets.
"I am just telling masses to compare the three-year Congress rule
and the present Raman Raj - what they have been doing and what the
Congress did. People know that the BJP government has let them
down," he said.
