Chirudih Massacre:
Shibu Soren produced in Jharkhand Court
Ranchi,
Jan 5
Former union minister Shibu Soren was produced Friday in a Jharkhand
court for his alleged role in the massacre of 11 people in Chirudih
village in 1975. The hearing in the case was adjourned to Jan 16.
Undergoing life term at the Tihar jail in New Delhi for having his
private aide Sashinath Jha kidnapped and later killed in 1995, the
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief was brought to Jamtara district
under heavy security.
A Delhi trial court had convicted Soren Dec 4 for Jha's murder.
The former minister was produced at Additional District Judge (ADJ)
Arun Kumar's court, trying the Chirudih massacre case. Soren is
alleged to have instigated his party workers to attack and kill
people, who were not the natives of the tribal district in erstwhile
Bihar.
The Jamtara court had issued a production warrant against Soren Dec
12.
After registering Soren's presence, the judge adjourned the hearing
of the case for Jan 16, with a direction to the former minister to
be present in the court during the next hearing.
The court also examined a witness in the case. Soren was later
shifted to Jamtara jail.
He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto and his
sons Durga Soren and Hemant Soren while a large number of JMM
workers were present outside the court premises.
The former minister is also facing prosecution in the Giridih
district court for killing two people in the district. He has to be
produced there Jan 21.
During the trial of the two cases, Soren is required to attend all
hearings as an accused. Accordingly, he will have to remain in a
Jharkhand jail during the trial of the two cases.
Soren is accused of having incited a mob to kill 11 people,
including nine Muslims, in Chirudih in a move to drive away
"outsiders".
A total of 60 people, including Soren, were accused in the case, but
25 of them have already died.
