"It gives me great pleasure
to inaugurate the 94th Session of the Indian Science Congress. Since
the theme of this year's Science Congress is Planet Earth, it is
only appropriate that you are meeting here in this historic town of
Chidambaram. It is home to the world famous temple of Nataraja. This
temple, dedicated to the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, is a timely and
contextual reminder of what this year's Science Congress is about.

Violence Re-erupts in Bengal over Salim Land Acquisition
In what can be called a sequel to the Singur movement, violence
erupted again Wednesday over land acquisition for a project for
Indonesia's Salim Group when police fired several rounds to quell
frenzied villagers at Nandigram in West Bengal. Villagers, who
blocked roads with boulders and destroyed a bridge to prevent police
access to their areas, said at least four of their people, including

Indian Navy to Commission New Warship
INS Shardul, the newest Indian Navy warship equipped with latest
electronic warfare systems, will be commissioned into service
Thursday at the Karwar naval base in coastal Karnataka by Defence
Minister A.K. Antony.
The auxiliary warship, built by Garden Reach Ship builders and
Engineers Ltd, Kolkata, is capable of carrying 11 armored tanks, 10
army vehicles and about 500 troop, helicopters, two rocket
launchers, two anti-aircraft guns and shoulder launcher
surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), besides the crew.

probe the killing and sexual assault of at least 20 children at
Noida on the edge of the capital. The four-member committee comes a
day after the National Human Rights Commission sent the government a
notice over the macabre crime saga that has claimed the lives of the

Scientists have developed a
little gadget that can be used for 15 minutes before sleeping to
treat insomnia and stress. The device, developed by New York based
company Helicor, is under clinical trial on 100 patients at Duke

regulated deep breathing, said the online edition of Daily Mail.
