The Doors of Perception – 1

Old doors and window frames have always fascinated me. I have always loved the title of the book, “The Doors of Perception,” by Aldous Huxley. In life, some doors are open to us, some are closed, some are life changing, and some lead nowhere. (The path not taken etc etc.)

In addition to this I thoroughly enjoy old buildings; as they allow the mind to fantasize about the past splendors of other mysterious and exotic eras. Old buildings have a spirit and a soul of their own.

I use black and white photos as a medium to enhance the spiritual journey into another world. I hope you enjoy the journey from reality into fantasy via doors, windows, and/or old crumbling buildings.

ILHA DE MOÇAMBIQUE (Island of Mozambique) is a small but beautiful, coral island located in the north of Mozambique. Up until 1898 the island's fortified town served as the capital of Portuguese East Africa. The island and its natural harbor were used by Arab merchants as a maritime trading centre from the 10th to the late 15th century. After which the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama claimed it for Portugal in 1498. Ilha de Mozambique is a place where time is absent. The pace is slow and full of history and culture. Historic buildings, forts, and Churches still remain. Ilha de Mozambique is a World Heritage Site where Africans, Arabs, and Europeans have all made their impact on the architecture, religion, language music and food for many centuries’.
