Giving Space To Others

How mean we are.
It is rare that we leave space for others
to breathe free.
Must we always emphasize ourselves?

Umpteen number of times
I have spoken with so much emphasis
to make a point
that I panted later
and reflected
why could I not be a little cool?

Am I so vulnerable
that I was not sure
that my point of view
would be accepted?

Why did I burn myself a little
just to light some flame
for some purpose?
Is it worthwhile really!

Does anybody change heart
just because somebody spoke about it?

The cooking is inside,
steaming takes place
and the dish gets ready.

Though there is a flame,
there is bowl,
and there are ingredients,
the cooking is autonomous.

It is the soul that cooks.
So, let us not be mean.
Let us try to leave space for others.
