Theme: Loneliness

I Saw a Bird Alone on a Tree

I saw a bird alone on a tree
A creature, all alone;
Lost in living leaves,
The bird didn’t see me.
It couldn’t have thought, just below,
That I, solitary, imagined
I was alone, amongst
Leafy, whispering boughs.

I saw a bird alone on a tree;
It was dusk; it was half-dark
And people going home for the day.
There was an almost-silence
A kind of gloom
That descended slowly in the park.

I saw a bird on a tree.
No, it didn’t see me.
The bird, the tree, those leaves
And melancholy.
