After a long drive
and a light lunch
when you retired blissfully for a nap,
in an attempt to surprise you
I wanted to write something on your Wall
Carried chalks of all the colours
and cleaned up the wall with a soft duster,
but what shall I write to catch your imagination?
Shall I write, ‘You are an angel in the mould of gold,
or a fairy of beauty – nonesuch and untold!’
In second thought, I felt
You are beyond any beauty I can perceive,
my mediocre comment
may fall short of the measure of it
Next, I thought of painting something;
shall I reproduce Leonardo da Vinci,
Picasso or Michelangelo or Amrita Sher-Gil?
No, seriously I thought,
‘How a gorgeous you can be another’s duplicate?’
Churning my mind a bit more,
finally I picked up a white chalk –
white for pure, I divined and wrote,
‘I love you, my dearest,
my eyes shall hold you ever,
mind shall follow wherever you go,
and heart shall embrace even your shadow.’
