The Home for the Aged

last evening
she was laid to rest
in the ground
human imperfections
buried too

no tears shed
very few attended
apart from
the dedicated Sisters
of the Home

her children
stayed away on purpose
not wanting
to defray funeral
expenses

now relieved
their consciences will not
be burdened
on her 91st birthday
coming soon

there will be
no pressure from the nuns
to visit
their frail aged mother
at the Home

the sad plight
of senior citizens
uncared for
by their selfish offspring
death's a relief
