Deepavali decorations External manifestations Tonnes of sweets and gifts Rows of lamps Flames of candles Magnificent fireworks Invitation to Goddess Lakshmi To bring prosperity and wealth. In this glare and glitter, How many really realize On the auspicious day Far more significant is The removal of inner darkness And ignorance of mind...? The lights of physical world Are not even worth A ray of inner light of self That brings the knowledge of truth And a dawn into a brighter light Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya.* (* From the darkness of ignorance lead me to the light of knowledge)
