I Must Tell You

I must tell you, I have seen
religion, real religion,
in the everyday encounter.
 
Don't talk to me about
what went on before or after,
but at the moment, is where it is.
 
I have seen kindness expressed
like a switch-on of life
switched off in the run of things.
 
And it has been a common thing,
remarkably similar
among the variety of men.
 
I must tell you, I have seen it:
real religion.
it is everywhere apparent.
