Theme: Perception

Looked at Closely

The acclamation of beauty relies
on limited perception of its object:
thus from afar the moon is viewed as perfect,
sun and stars sublime in glory; our eyes

are not critical of fault in the rose,
or in forms of beauty that do declare
themselves, absolute, we ourselves propose
in so many words that themselves the air

enchant in poetry and song, and love
attends; love has its perfect object too.
