God's Answering Machine

I have learnt that
it has always been there
with a state of the art recording system,
but without a voice generated response mechanism.

You may beg, implore or beseech
for a hint of comfort
that your supplication did not fall prey
to the fag end of the tape.

May cry, scream, whine or wail
and bring all your histrionics in aid
for a mere shadow of response
that will name itself a miracle.

The better ones they say
suffer more, beg more, cry more
for that is what is liked more
so that you stay on line.

They also say there is no system of holding up on you.
