How Long?

Rose buds not allowed to bloom
tender eyes not permitted to open
tiny tots not free to play with mirth
young girls not born to be smothered!

Mark Antony was right in proclaiming
"O Judgment, thou art fled to brutish beasts
And men have lost their reason."
What a shame, my countrymen
so abominable, so devastating---
how could one trample a tender flower?

We are a democracy, true
numbers matter, agreed---
for choosing a victim,
for committing a crime?

Spare them not dear folks---
hang them high on the nearest post
smash their heads, pulverize bones
waste not time, allow not escape
instant justice best remedy
castrate, chop limbs, gouge out eyes!

Aruna, Nirbhaya, then Asifa today---
Suffering alters not with faith
death changes not with gender
how long speechless, spineless?
