Theme: Tanka

Weeping Willow and more ....

The weeping willow
Stranger to this wilderness
Flourishes, grows well
A sign across the field reads
Aliens not wanted, go back.

Big bear stalks male cubs
Mother bear, icon of stealth,
Saves them from sure death.
A girl-child's fate is far worse
Both parents think she's a curse.

Charcoal black tree stump,
Layered grey with its own ash
Sprouted fresh green shoots ~
In defiance of Death's call
In deference to Life's yearning.

Lord of his own fate
Man, unawares, does the jig;
Time plays the music
Circumstances choreograph
And puppeteer turns puppet.

Round, shiny, beady,
Quivering, a tear drop paused
On the tiny cheek
Strangled sobs and trembling lips...
An angel banished to earth.

Limpid, glassy lake
Picture of tranquility
Sitting at its edge,
Statue-still, with subtle breath
I swallowed the universe.
