Child of God

child of god1.jpg
Religion is the work of man the adult:
Adam was an adult man, and ever since
no child has struck a religious figure, save
dumb like Isaac, a sacrificial lamb.

Historically, God is an adult thing:
authors of philosophy and religion
come fully formed like Adam, works
compiled with adult energies.

At the adult peak of contemplation,
God is mastered in incomprehension:
try explaining that to a child,
whose knowledge of God is practical.

Beyond the arid adult formulations,
there is simple everyday experience:
the small things that charm the heart
of a child, as cherished in the knowing.

One great teacher alone saw the level
of a child to be where God is found,
confounding adults and their religion,
in the kingdom where God dwells.
