The Instant

It is a source of wonder
how anyone can speak or act:
it requires that the world
be reduced to a thought,
the reality responded to.

Our words and acts
are translated back to thoughts
that which we reflect upon,
an instant in its summary,
all thought an instant proves.

Revise the whole creation
as one of instant duration:
it would be true:
we occupy what eons stretched
the present in an instant keeps.

Revise that all events return
in the thought: lighter
than frost in the morning light
that evanesces and leaves
the foliage complete.
