Theme: Irony

The Academic

I caught sight of him crossing the street,
the academic, the other day.
Remote of air, his countenance downbeat,
he minced along the unliterary way,
eyes fixed, but his vision peripheral,
the grey buildings and real time traffic,
passers-by, patterns of the ephemeral
stylised absolutely, his automatic
pilot capably construed; should he bump
it would be into an obstacle there
dealt with, then back on his brisk train to jump,
all the way to the terminus: his chair.
And in the theorizing have much to say
about life; where the world was heading today.
