an angel or a god in disguise
to shoot down Bapu?
Your act we termed cruel
and couldn't understand then...
Gandhi belonged to the heaven,
strayed to the earth
to stay with us, the downtrodden,
to show the light, lead the way
and teach songs to chant and pray
Foreseeing possible humiliation
and embarassment, you aimed at
the frail saint, to hand down one death
instead of a series of self-punishment
Bapu would have been
behind the bars perhaps
for violating Section 144,
or would have been prevented
by police to hold his Friday prayer,
and against the corrupt practices
to protest or fast ever...
But wouldn't the storm of virtue
to push away the clouds of corruption
change its direction for our tricolour
to go up on this august day of August 15
to herald a new dawn for our ancient nation!
